SHELBY WIMBERLY
Shelby is a mixed media artist focusing her work on time, specifically the time within motherhood. Collaborating & competing soft, washed colors with spunky, spicy marks, she showcases how the balance of the two creates an authentic abstraction of life balancing being a mother. Repetition & routine find themselves within the process & throughout the compositions.
As her experience of time in motherhood shifts, so does the work. From more rigid grids of routine found in early motherhood to more fluid silhouettes of palmy irises as she returns to her own sort of pattern again. Marks become less sharp & quick. They start to draw out her own identity as time becomes hers again. With her background & formal training in drawing, Shelby uses mark making to emphasize that precise moment as if they are timestamps. Racing marks with time all while doing it with a nurturing quality of practice, her work expands on the essence of what time feels like in this very moment of motherhood.
