Meet the artist
Kaylee DeFer works in oil pastel on raw, unprimed canvas — a surface that holds a mark the moment it lands. There's no reworking, no scraping back. The zodiac series came from that same logic: each of the twelve signs drawn from memory and instinct, not reference. Capricorn looks like Capricorn because she decided it did.
The zodiac is a language almost everyone already speaks. I wanted to find out what it looks like when it's felt.
Each canvas is 12 × 12 inches — small enough to hold, large enough to stop a room. Every piece is signed and mounted on mat board, ready to hang. Collected together, they read as a complete sky. Individually, they find the walls and the people they were always meant for.
