SHELBY WIMBERLY

Shelby is a mixed media artist whose work focuses on time, specifically the time within motherhood. Soft, washed colors mixed with spunky, spicy marks represent an abstraction of life, a mother balancing it all. Repetition and routine are the grounding elements—woven throughout the compositions.

As her experience of time in motherhood shifts, so does the work. From more rigid grids of routine found in early motherhood to more fluid silhouettes as she returns to her own sort of pattern again. Marks that were once sharp and quick are now more relaxed as time becomes hers again.

Tell us something about your process that is hard to tell from photos.

Every mark is like a timestamp. Before the kids wake up, during naptime, the moments I get to myself. The process is made up of the space in the day that I’m not tending to littles.

What do you hope people will take away from your work?

A conversation whether it’s on motherhood, time or how the composition moves. I love listening to ideas & how the work translates.
