Lyric Morris-Latchaw

"Forage" is the latest collection from painter and farmer Lyric Morris Latchaw. The pieces are inspired by the plants that the artist sees, harvests, and prepares on a daily basis, including sumac, oak, and dandelion. These familiar forms are abstracted into textured and layered compositions, featuring oil paint and pastels layered in thick, matte, scrubby textures that don’t shy away from the physicality of the medium.

Robbie is an artist, a teacher, a father, and a husband – though that order fluctuates regularly. He lives in a 112-year-old house, in the town he was born, one-half mile from his high school alma mater, where he has taught for 18 years. Louisiana “bookends” his pilgrimage. His latest collection "Electric Prayers for Silence" represents the hum in the quiet voltage between reverence and noise.

Printermaker turned artist, Renée collects source materials from museums, antique print dealers, the Internet and private collections. She photographs the items and uses digital programs to modify the images, which serve as general outlines for her compositions. The interweaving of text and antique visual imagery gives her work a tactile tapestry quality.
